Pátzcuaro’s Achoque, an Ancient Species

The  achoque   (ambystoma dumerilii)  is an endemic of salamander species in danger of extinction in our Lake Pátzcuaro . One of the main factors that led it almost to disappear was the pollution of Lake Pátzcuaro , which has increased in recent years. The City Council of Pátzcuaro , seeking the reclamation of Lake Pátzcuaro , recently made the official request that it be designated as a “Ramsar Site;” as part of the National World Wetlands Day event that was commemorated this year in Pátzcuaro on February 2.
