The Cultural Center / Old Jesuit College, also known as the Ex Colegio Jesuita in Pátzcuaro , is a place to enjoy culture, and in the context of a lovely 16 th century building. This “College of the Society of Jesus” was the second of its kind that was established in “New Spain,” after the first one in Mexico City.  It was built in what was the orchard of what would become the Cathedral of Michoacán (now the Basílica). The Pila de Espejo is part of the Cultural Heritage of Patzcuaro , and is located at the corner of Ibarra and Espejo, just a few blocks from our Hotel Mansion Iturbe . Pila de Espejo (Mirror Well) in Pátzcuaro Like all the historical wells of Patzcuaro , its function was to supply water to residents of the neighborhood.  We don’t know exactly when the well was constructed, but there is a plaque referencing the year 1939. An excellent work concerning the Cultural Heritage of Patzcuaro has recently become available with the support of the Citizen’s Council of Culture of the Municipality of Patzcuaro . The document will assuredly promote interest in learning and appreciating the cultural and intangible heritage that defines our Magical Village. It is important that future generations have a better knowledge of this heritage so that they can assess and be proud of the legacy of our ancestors, to take care of it, and safeguard it for future generations.
