Lakes and Mountains in the Lake Region of Michoacán

Michoacán is renowned for its lakes and mountains with stunning landscapes and natural attractions, which amaze our guests at Hotel Mansion Iturbe as they approach Pátzcuaro by car, whether for the first time, or for the hundredth time!

During the rainy season, the Michoacán countryside turns green, and the clouds, heavy with water, change constantly with the time of day.  Touring the countryside and being part of it is a pleasure for the senses.

The Lake Region of Pátzcuaro can have outstanding sunrises, which can range from an thick, mysterious mist, to a clear eye-opening morning that lets us enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding mountains.  Cloud connoisseurs can predict how the weather will change and can tell if it is an ideal day to visit the lake and its Islands, or take a leisurely walk along the shoreline and visit the many picturesque villages.

Rainy days are full of charm, turning the countryside into a live watercolor, with different shades of green, and the glass-like raindrops on the leaves of the wild plants.  The soothing sound of the rain only adds to the mystery.

For our guests at Hotel Mansion Iturbe, we have much to offer. In addition to Lake Pátzcuaro, at just 24 kilometers (11 miles) from Pátzcuaro on highway 14D, we find Lake Zirahuén.  Although much smaller in area than Lake Pátzcuaro, it is much deeper (up to 70 meters), reminding some people of Lake Tahoe in the US.

At Lake Zirahuén, be sure to try the traditional cuisine, buy wooden crafts, and even enjoy some recreational sports.

Come and enjoy our lake region, with lakes and mountains which, even in the summer rainy season, holds a very special magic.
