Mojigangas in Patzcuaro

The Mojigangas (mo-hee-GAHN-gahs) proclaim the proximity of the celebration of Our Lady of Health in Patzcuaro. We see these giants in the streets of our magical village during the month of November on weekends. Sunday is the day that traditionally they come out to dance in the streets, but the most important date is December 8 , when we celebrate the coronation of the Virgin. Making an “Altar to the Dead” or an “Offering of Day of Dead” is a tradition very rooted in Mexico. K’uinchekua (The Great Party of Michoacán ) was a cultural event that took place to mark the visit of Pope Francisco to Morelia. Traditional Purépecha music has its roots in pre-Hispanic times, during which the missionaries used music, dance, song, and theater as teaching resources to carry out their evangelization.  Traditional Purépecha Music in Pátzcuaro, Michoacán.
