The Antigüo Colegio Jesuita (ex Colegio) – right up the street from Hotel Mansión Iturbe – is Pátzcuaro ’s principle venue for art shows.   Although there is only one permanent show – a large and comprehensive collection of masks on the ground floor – it is the monthly, dynamic turnover of exhibitions upstairs that draws in the crowds. In Patzcuaro , temporary art shows are constantly coming and going at the “Centro Cultural Antiguo Colegio Jesuita” .   Such shows normally remain for three to four weeks, so there’s rarely a dull moment. On the trail of the Monarch Butterfly is a fascinating show that runs through October 17 in Morelia’s Centro Comercial Espacio las Américas . It marks 70 years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Canada. The glider carries the name “Papalotzin,” mythical Royal Butterfly of the Aztecs.   Gutiérrez flew the 6,000 kilometers from Canada to Central Mexico in 72 days (4 generations of butterflies), spending a total of 90 hours in the sky.
