K’uinchekua (The Great Party of Michoacán ) was a cultural event that took place to mark the visit of Pope Francisco to Morelia. Mexican traditions come alive in Patzcuaro , and this year is no exception:   El Dia de la Candelaria (Candlemas Day) was just celebrated February 2 – as it always is – and guests at Hotel Mansion Iturbe were here to enjoy and participate in the many related festivities, and witness the devotion of our Patzcuarenses. Candlemas celebrations in Patzcuaro The tradition of El Día de la Candelaria in Mexico goes back centuries.   Today, a small figure of the baby Jesus is placed in the Kings’ Ring cake.   Whoever finds it is blessed and must take it to the nearest church on February 2.   Tamales and atole are the typical treats served at the fiesta. July 20 and 21 we will enjoy the 8th International Festival of “Globos de Cantoya” in Paracho, Michoacán.  This yearly event has become a regular tradition. Our guests at Hotel Mansión Iturbe frequently ask about summer events in the area, and the Festival of Globos de Cantoya is near the top of our list of recommendations. Festival of Globos de Cantoya in Paracho Paracho is a mere 70 kilometers (45 miles) from Pátzcuaro ; Highway 14 gets you there.  It’s an ideal destination for the family, and is a spectacular and colorful event that you don’t see very often. For this 8th annual festival, places as far away as Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Equador, and even France will be represented, in addition to Mexico, of course. The Festival of Corpus Christi , celebrated the Thursday after Holy Trinity, is an important date on the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church.   It’s also an important celebration full of tradition and vitality for the devout in the Magical Village of Patzcuaro . International Cantoya Lantern Festival in Paracho

It’s vacation time and Hotel Mansion Iturbe would like to recommend you a nice festival close to Patzcuaro. The Seventh Annual Festival Internacional de Globos de Cantoya (International Cantoya Lantern Festival), held in Paracho , JULY 20-21. Thirty groups from different states – and even Colombia and Brazil – will be represented. This important festival is organized by the "Consejo para el Arte y Cultura Purépecha, Asociación Civil." In addition to the traditional release of lanterns, there will also be workshops, shows, music and dance, artisans, and – of course – FOOD! It’s an event worth seeing as part of your summer vacation!
