Five Places to Relax and Unwind near Pátzcuaro
If what
you want is a place to relax and unwind in Mexico, Pátzcuaro and the Lake Region is the ideal destination.
Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, México |
Pátzcuaro is one of the most beautiful “Pueblos Mágicos” (Magical Towns) of
Mexico. It is a fabulous place to rest and walk down the streets and
squares, admiring its architecture and discovering its history and traditions.
When you
visit Pátzcuaro, you have at yourfingertips the enormous Lake Region
with its great cultural and historical wealth, as well as its abundance of
natural resources.
You will
discover communities far away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities,
where you will find “the readl thing” at every turn. We recommend that
you carefully plan your visit to the area to take full advantage of your time.
Five of
our top destinations in the area include:
1.
The Island of Pacanda is the largest
island of Lake Pátzcuaro, though it
is not the most popular (Janitzio). It is an ideal place to get in touch
with nature and enjoy the rural tourism; give yourself time to observe the
flora and fauna. Visit the center of community ecotourism, operated by
hospitable locals.

The
island features a lagoon – the remnant of an extinct volcano – visited now and
then by herons and ducks. Pacanda offers breathtaking views of the Lake Region.
2. The Atrium of Olives in Tzintzuntzan is
a delight to the senses. Thirty-three centuries-old olive trees add to the rich
historical and cultural experience.
Temple of Solitude in Tzintzuntzan, Michoacán |
At the far end of the atrium, the former Franciscan Convent of Santa Ana and the Temple of Solitude are jewels of colonial architecture, where you will find unusual and compelling works of colonial art.
3.
The archaeological site of Tzintzuntzan,
also known as the Yácatas, is located on the slope of the Hill
of Yahuarato with a panoramic view of the Lake
Pátzcuaro and the picturesque “Pueblo
Magico” of Tzintzuntzan. A
place where tranquility reigns, you can imagine the time when this place was
the Capital of the Purépecha Empire.

5. Estribo Grande is an ideal place to enjoy some fresh air and drink in a wonderful panoramic view of Lake Pátzcuaro and the island of Janitzio. As well as being in contact with nature, remember that you are ascending a dormant volcano, imagining dinosaurs walking in your very footsteps 70 million years ago. Walk up a new stone road to the viewpoint, or you can get there by car.
