The Olmecas developed the cultivation of cocoa, using it to barter with other products. In southeastern Mexico, the Maya also cultivated cocoa, being a highly prized product, having a commercial value that they also used to barter with the Mexica, Tlaxcalteca or Mixteca cultures.
