If you want to enjoy and/or purchase artisan works in Michoacán, your destination is the Artisan Fair on Palm Sunday in Uruapan.

This is a favorite destination of our Hotel Mansión Iturbe guests who gather there to do some jaw-dropping of the approximately 1,500 artisans from all over the State of Michoacán.  Unless you have previously attended this event, you cannot imagine the quantity and quality of pieces you will find - and fall in love with.

Mark your calendars for March 31 - April 16, 2023 for this exciting event, which takes place annually around Easter Sunday.  Organize your schedule and get ready to pack your vehicle with all sorts of fabulous works of folk art.

Palm Sunday Artisan Fair in Uruapan 2023

Uruapan is only about 65 kilometers (40 miles) from Pátzcuaro (Route 14D).  Use your favorite app to figure out how to get to downtown Uruapan.

 As mentioned above, the Palm Sunday Artisan Fair in Uruapan is a yearly event, with the bulk of the activity in the heart of the city, Plaza Martires and Plaza Morelos.  It’s probably the biggest and most diverse such event in Latin America.  “Extraordinary” would be a good word to describe it.

A highlight of the fair is the “Concurso Artesanal” contest (at La Casa de la Cultura de Uruapan, on the main square), where you will find the best of the best artworks from all over the state.

Take a break or two and enjoy some of our finest traditional cuisine of Michoacán, which you will have no trouble finding:  just follow your nose!
