Palm Sunday Artisan Faire in Uruapan 2019

The dates this year for the Uruapan Artisan Faire 2019 are April 12-28.  This much-anticipated annual event takes place downtown Uruapan in Plaza Mártires de Uruapan and the Plaza Morelos.

There are many places to visit during Holy Week in Mexico, and Michoacán offers multiple options, including Uruapan. It is close to Pátzcuaro and hosts this incredible craft event. So we at Hotel Mansion Iturbe give Holy Week in Uruapan a big thumbs up.

Uruapan is about 57 kilometers (25 miles) from Pátzcuaro, connected by Highway 14D.

The Palm Sunday crafts faire de Domingo in Uruapan, is an opportunity to engage with Michoacán artisans and to directly buy their pieces of folk art, which is a part of their very identity.  Artisanware is their life.

If you like Michoacán crafts, attend this important artisanal event, where approximately 1,300 craftsmen from 50 indigenous communities are represented, primarily Purhépecha, Mazahua, Otomi, and Nahuatl.

In this important artisan Expo, which is perhaps the largest in Latin America, they are expected to collectively sell more than one million handcrafted pieces, using ancient techniques in their elaboration.

Among the activities that are planned is the traditional parade of artisans (April 13 at 10 a.m. It begins at the famous National Park and ends at the historic center. Sample the gastronomical delights in the Plaza de la Ranita, where you can bask in the Michoacán cuisine dishes, prepared by the traditional cooks from Michoacán.

Sunday, April 14, is the awards ceremony of the craft contest where awards for best of the best are handed out.
