The Portals of Patzcuaro, Michoacan

When we visit the colonial cities and (Pueblos Mágicos) “magical towns” of Mexico, among the architectural elements, their portals always stand out.  Their use was very common in colonial times, being arcades or covered galleries, which were built along its main streets.

In colonial times they were very common, in places like Pátzcuaro; with so much rain in the rainy season, pedestrians could - and still can - take shelter from the downpours.
