Rotterdam Symphony Concert with Violinist Lara St. John in Patzcuaro
Pátzcuaro dressed up for an event of international stature on Saturday, November 16. The prestigious Rotterdam Symphony and renowned Canadian violinist Lara St. John performed at the Basilica of Our Lady of Health.
This first-class event reaffirms that Pátzcuaro is a first-class cultural destination.
The concert was
an extension of the Morelia Music Festival, where they worked
together with the Municipality of Pátzcuaro, the Basilica of Our Lady of
Health, and the Association por Pátzcuaro. A.C.
It was a free event, which was a real feast for
classical music lovers.

The Rotterdam
Symphony is world-renowned, and has performed in multiple
festivals and concert halls. Likewise, Lara St. John is a world-class
violinist, who has captivated audiences on international stages and with
the most prestigious symphony orchestras in the world.

The excellent
program included music by Fanny Mendelssohn, Piotr Ilich Tchaikovsky, and
Johannes Brahms, and the the Rotterdam Symphony showed the
energy and vitality that characterizes it, as well as the sensitivity of Lara
St. John, which made the time fly too quickly, connecting with
the audience at a profound level.

This year
the Morelia Music Festival is honoring women,
specifically women composers, such as Fanny Mendelssohn who, for
a long time remained anonymous. She was a German composer of the early XIX
century. We had the opportunity to listen to her Overture in C Major
during the concert at the Basilica. She had to give her works to friends
or relatives to publish them (in her case to her famous brother Felix
Mendelssohn) because at that time women were expected to devote themselves
to housework.

It was
a night to remember in Pátzcuaro, where we enjoyed classical music
in such an emblematic setting. It was a magical night, showing us
that Pátzcuaro is indeed a cultural destination of great
relevance in Mexico.
