Pila de Espejo (Mirror Well) in Pátzcuaro |
Like all the historical wells of Patzcuaro, its function was to supply water to residents of the
neighborhood. We don’t know exactly when the well was constructed, but
there is a plaque referencing the year 1939.

The Pila de
Espejo is dedicated to one of the benefactors of Patzcuaro in the 18th century, the illustrious Spanish
philanthropist Don Antonio de Ibarra y Sangotita, captain of the Tercios
Viejos de Castilla, who died in Patzcuaro
in 1747.

Don Antonio was the foundor Hospital de Jesús and the
Catherine Nuns, whose convent was what, is now the well-known Casa de los Once Patios.
