Discover the Magic Town of Tacambaro

Tacambaro is another Magic Town in Michoacan, located just 55 kilometers (25 miles) south of Patzcuaro. Known as the Balcony of Tierra Caliente, it received its title of Pueblo Mágico in November 2012.

Tacambaro is blessed with a fabulous climate and lovely, natural surroundings and avocado orchards. The pastoral area has a small lake (“pool”) and and extinct volcano surrounded by pines and oak trees.

Another place you may want to visit is the Hollow Hill Ecological Park, which is a natural protected area from which you can admire the Tierra Caliente panorama, and visit the Magdalena Lagoon.

In Purhepecha, the indigenous idiom of the area, Tacambaro means “Place of the Date Palms.” We suggest you take the time to get to know this Magic Town. The foreign paintings of the Virgin in the Santuario de Fatima are noteworthy.

Tacambaro also has a lovely replica of the Holy Sepulcre. The original is in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Tacambaro’s Cathedral is also worth visiting. The cornerstone of this cathedral dates back to Vasco de Quiroga, when Fry Juan de San Roman and Fry Diego de Chavez placed the first stone. A fire completely destroyed the structure, leaving only the cornerstone. The cathedral was rebuilt and restored over the years.

In the 1985 Earthquake, the cupula collapsed and was rebuilt. The current style of the Cathedral of Tacambaro is that of he late 19th -early 20th century. The bronze Throne of God is remarkable.

In Tacambaro you can also visit the Cultural Center "Amalia Solorzano de Cardenas" who was the wife of President Lazaro Cardenas del Rio, check if there is an interesting exposition you might enjoy.



While you're there, you can't miss the cuisine of Tacambaro like Carnitas! Yum!! and you won't believe their avocado ice cream! Wow! And ther's more.
