Seventh Piano Festival of Pátzcuaro

The Seventh Piano Festival of Pátzcuaro kicks off Saturday, April 2, and will continue for the remainder of the month.  This event, which has been met with great success since its inception, has enriched the cultural life of our Pueblo Mágico.

 

To mark the Seventh Piano Festival of Pátzcuaro, we will see professional recitals, a concert in the Plaza Vasco de Quiroga (Plaza Grande), contemporary concerts, local talent, and even a silent film with live piano.

The professional recitals will take place in the Teatro Emperador Caltzontzin at 6:00 p.m. ($50 pesos).  These concerts are as follows:

In the Plaza Vasco de Quiroga, opposite our very own Hotel Mansion Iturbe, we will hear "Pianarte. The Art of the Piano." On April 3, at 10 in the morning, participating in this event the group, Los Achoques, Marcela del Río, storytelling and piano – outside – with Luis Verduzco.

Later that day, a fun concert with Luis Verduzco, will be held in the Plaza Vasco de Quiroga.

The Seventh Piano Festival of Pátzcuaro will also include concerts of contemporary music (no charge) at the Teatro Emperor Caltzontzin at 7:00 p.m.  The program will include the following:

April 13: Jerry Engelbach

April 27: Alfonso Mier y Cortés.

A traditional segment of the Piano Festival of Pátzcuaro is the performance that showcases local talent, "Patzcuaro to the Piano." This event be held April 20 at 7:00 p.m., in the Teatro Emperor Caltzontzin (no charge).

This year's participants are: Esteban Daniel Alcántar Estrada, María Elena Campuzano, Jimena Orozco Garnica, Citlalli Geraldine Corona de la Cruz, Osmar Pérez Horta, Yosslyn Mendiola, David Garza of del Rio.

Closing the event will be a concert of classical music for four hands by two Pátzcuaro expatriates: Andrew Carhartt and William F. Kammann.

An important of the Seventh Piano Festival of Patzcuaro are the didactic concerts, this year conducted by Luis Verduzco, Wednesdays at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m., as follows:

April 6: Centro Cultural Antiguo Colegio Jesuita.

April 13: Auditorio del CREFAL.

April 20: Centro de Desarrollo Comunitario Vista del Lago.

April 27: Casa de la Cultura.

Also, as part of the celebration, we will be treated to a silent film (featuring Charles Chaplin and Buster Keaton) with live piano on April 5 at the Teatro Emperador Caltzontzin at 6:00 p.m.  Free admission.
