479th Birthday of Pátzcuaro!

September 28, we celebrated Pátzcuaro’s 479th Birthday!  On this day, in 1534, the King of Spain officially conferred upon us the title of a “City of Michoacan.”

This year, like many, many others in the past, it was celebrated with gusto!  Dubbed “Cultural Festival of Pátzcuaro 2013,” it went on for nine days.

Events were held in diverse locations, including the Basílica, the Caltzontzin Theater, the Main Plaza (Plaza Vasco de Quiroga), and even the little Lázaro Cárdenas Plaza.

One of the most important highlights of the occasion was presenting the Vasco de Quiroga Award to the sitting Archbishop Don Alberto Suarez Inda for his noteworthy humanitarian service to the Michoacán community.

September 28, of course, was the “main day” in Pátzcuaro, our “Magic Village,” with its traditional morning festivities, including the typical animated parades.
