Mansión Iturbe: A Legacy Inviting You to Discover the Soul of Pátzcuaro
As the global tourism industry turns its gaze toward FITUR 2026—a landmark edition with Mexico as the Partner Country—Hotel Mansión Iturbe takes a moment to reflect on our journey. At a time when modern travelers seek the authentic roots of a destination, we are proud to share how our historic manor continues to project the cultural richness of Pátzcuaro to the world.
Our history breathes through stones that span centuries. In the 18th century, this property served as the strategic hub for Don Francisco de Iturbe y Heriz. As Administrator of the Royal Customs, he linked Pátzcuaro with global trade routes. The ground floor of the Mansion was once a bustling Trading and Muleteer House; here, merchants arrived with goods from the Manila Galleon, making these walls a logistical heart of the colonial era.

This tradition of openness was revitalized in 1970 by Margarita Arriaga Pierres. At just 27 years old, she led a visionary female-driven entrepreneurship that transformed the family estate into the boutique hotel that today preserves this vital fragment of Michoacán’s local history.

The spirit of renewal continues to guide us. We understand that
contemporary hospitality is built on sharing meaningful value. This philosophy
led our blog to be recognized as a finalist in the FITUR Blog Awards in
2018, focusing on sustainable tourism. That distinction was not a finish
line, but the catalyst to further professionalize our voice and enhance the
guest experience.
In line with this commitment, October 2025 marked a milestone: my participation in a trade mission to Germany through the Empresarias Ecolíder program. This initiative—a collaboration between the Women Business Leaders’ Coordinating Council, the GIZ (German Agency for International Cooperation), and the Ministry of Economy—has allowed us to integrate sophisticated sustainability practices that honor our heritage while securing our future.
Applying this global expertise to the management of Mansión Iturbe
is our way of offering professional stewardship. We take immense pride in
preserving Michoacán cuisine, one of the world’s most revered
gastronomic expressions. We celebrate this legacy daily at our Doña Paca
Restaurant, named in honor of our founder’s great-great-grandmother.

Our vision is firm: we want tourism to be the catalyst that honors
the talent of rural women, traditional cooks (cocineras tradicionales),
and artisans in our region. At Mansión Iturbe, every stay is designed to
benefit the community directly, allowing travelers to experience the true depth
of the Pátzcuaro Magic Town.
Pátzcuaro is a destination beyond compare. We invite you to stay in our historic manor
and, from this vantage point, live the magic of this exceptional corner of Michoacán.
Here, the warmth of our people ensures that your visit is, quite simply,
unforgettable.
