This
recognition stands as the highest tribute to the life Doña Margarita
Arriaga Pierres devoted to service, passionately promoting tourism in
our region. Her efforts were always focused on cultivating culture,
traditions, and genuine Mexican hospitality.
Doña
Margarita Arriaga Pierres worked with immense dedication towards the
development of Cultural Tourism in Michoacán, positioning herself as a pioneering
woman who broke ground in the industry. Her enduring commitment to
the state materialized in 1970 with the founding of Hotel Mansión Iturbe—a
project that involved the meticulous rescue and restoration of a
viceregal-era building in the very heart of Pátzcuaro.
She
always maintained that the true wealth of Michoacán lay in its history, its
artistic expressions, its vibrant celebrations, and, most importantly, its
people.
Hotel Mansión Iturbe, located on the historic Plaza Vasco de Quiroga in Pátzcuaro, is
the space where her life philosophy and visionary spirit remain profoundly
present. Doña Margarita’s work transformed this building into a benchmark
for local hotel keeping, demonstrating that high-quality service can be
delivered while deeply respecting the identity and colonial architecture of our
town. Her primary focus was on preserving the architectural essence of the
property, making a stay at Mansión Iturbe an immersive experience in the
history of Michoacán. Furthermore, she actively participated in various
initiatives to position Michoacán as a destination of culture and warmth, both
nationally and internationally, greatly boosting regional tourism.
An
especially cherished aspect of her legacy was her love for gastronomy.
Doña Margarita Arriaga was a pivotal figure in the collective efforts that
culminated in the historic recognition of Traditional Michoacán Cuisine as a UNESCO
Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Her passion for local flavors is
a guiding principle that shapes our hotel’s service every single day.
