Hotel Mansión Iturbe: Celebrating 55 Years of History in the Heart of Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, México
In the very heart of Pátzcuaro, directly facing the iconic Plaza Vasco de Quiroga, Hotel Mansión Iturbe proudly celebrates 55 years of history, tradition, and an unwavering commitment to excellence in Mexican hospitality. Housed within a jewel of New Spanish architecture, designated as a Historical Monument, this hotel is a living testament to a legacy that dates back to 1790. It was then that Don Francisco de Iturbe y Heriz, a renowned businessman and administrator of the Royal Customs, acquired this former trading and muleteer house. Its corridors once echoed with history, serving as a crucial point on the trade routes that stretched from the Manila Galleon to Acapulco, passing through the Pátzcuaro customs house on their way into Mexican territory.

The
entrepreneurial spirit of Margarita Arriaga Pierres, a descendant of the
original owners of this historic mansion, was fundamental in bringing Hotel Mansión Iturbe to life. With remarkable vision, Doña Margarita introduced
the concept of a boutique hotel to Pátzcuaro, drawing inspiration from
European pensions in an era dominated by large establishments. Her dedicated
restoration work not only preserved the family legacy but also established a
new standard in local hospitality, transforming Mansión Iturbe into a
cultural and historical landmark.
