Palm Sunday Artisan Fair Uruapan 2022
The Palm Sunday Artisan Fair in Uruapan was canceled two years ago due to the pandemic, but it’s back again this year for the 61rst year.
Preparations are already underway in
Uruapan to receive the artisans of the different communities of Michoacán,
who will come to exhibit and sell their handicrafts, for which they have been
preparing for months.

For our guests at Hotel Mansión Iturbe
in Patzcuaro, attending the State Handicraft Contest and the Palm
Sunday Artisan Tianguis in Uruapan is a must-do. Uruapan is located
57 kms (35 miles) west of Patzcuaro on Highway 14 D.
Artisans of different ethnic groups such
as Purépecha, Mazahua, Nahua and Otomíe, from the different cardinal points of Michoacán,
will be present – a perfect sampling of the creativity of Michoacán artisans.

The State Handicraft Contest itself is already underway, as the artisans have already begun registering their pieces in the House of Culture of Uruapan. In this Contest you will find the highest quality folk art. The Contest begins on Saturday, April 9, until the award ceremony the next day, Palm Sunday.
The Artisan Fair actually runs
from April 9 to 24, so if you miss the big event on Palm Sunday, you can still
shop there for a couple more weeks.

This important event takes place in the
heart of Uruapan in the Plaza de los Mártires and Plaza Morelos.
It is most gratifying to see this
important event back in action in Uruapan.
Artisanal production is not only a
tradition, but also a pillar of the economy of many families. It involves
trades inherited from the artisans’ ancestors. You can buy handicrafts directly
from the artisans and stimulate the economy of hundreds of Michoacán artisans.

Attending this Artisan Fair in Uruapan
is a tradition during the Easter Holidays in Michoacán. For this year,
approximately 1,500 artisans are expected to participate, and it is estimated
that upwards of a million pieces will be exhibited.
You will find handmade pieces for all budgets, and it is a great opportunity to buy handicrafts and support artisans, after the downtime necessitated by the pandemic.
