Cultural Center of the Old Jesuit College in Patzcuaro
Among the main attractions of Pátzcuaro are its history, architecture and rich cultural heritage. A place where you can enjoy all of the above is the Antiguo Colegio Jesuita (Old Jesuit College), today converted into a Cultural Centre where you can experience the extensive cultural life of our Magical Town.
It is located on Calle de
Enseñanza, two blocks up the hill from our Hotel Mansión Iturbe, across the street
from the museum. We highly recommend you to visit this historic
landmark.

When you come to Pátzcuaro, don't miss
this place; take the time to
visit some of the temporary exhibitions, consult the cultural billboard outside the
front doors. There are constantly changing cultural activities including seminars,
conferences, cinema, theatre, dance, piano, flute and guitar recitals, and much more.

You will also be able to participate in the wide range of workshops that are available to you, as well as the inhabitants of Pátzcuaro.
This important building dates back to the XVI century. Its construction is estimated to be approximately in the year 1585. It was occupied for several centuries by Jesuit friars, who remained there until 1767.

During your tour of the Old Jesuit Collage, you will come across old educational murals, which the friars used to teach their students, and which were important learning tools in those years. It is something really interesting that distinguishes this beautiful place; ask your guide to point them out!

One favorite area of the Cultural Centre is the one dedicated to Popular Traditions. The exhibition of masks is very interesting; they are from different States of Mexico.
Another interesting permanent exhibition is Traditional Toys of Michoacán.
If you visit Pátzcuaro during the season of the Night of the Dead, a must for these dates is to go to the Artisan Contest, where you will find the finest wonders of Mexican Folk Art made by Michoacán artisans from all corners of Michoacán.
They recently opened
a book store with a fine selection of books. Give yourself time to flip
through what is there, and you are sure to find exactly what you were looking
for!
