December 16 was the inauguration of Pátzcuaro Monumental Crèche – 2017, which is scheduled to remain until January 7 at the Plaza Vasco de Quiroga, opposite our Hotel Mansion Iturbe.

Pátzcuaro is one of the “Magical Villages” to spend Christmas in Mexico, where you can appreciate a wide range of crafts. Through this Monumental Crèche, you can encounter the seven principal artisan regions of Michoacán.

This gigantic installation is actually much more than just the crèche; it includes 50 larger-than-life figures, such as the magi and the animals they rode – a huge, marvelously imagined elephant, a camel, and a horse.  All sorts of creatures and people coming to adore the Christ are represented.  This is not to mention the huge Christmas tree, also made from Michoacán artisanware.

The seven tourist regions of Michoacán are represented in the figures of this birth: Apatzingán, Uruapan, Zamora, area of the Monarch Butterflies, the coast, Morelia, and, of course, Pátzcuaro.
