The Pottery Fair in Patzcuaro

Fridays at the Plaza de San Francisco in Patzcuaro is a tradition.  It’s THE day when the artisans from the communities around Lake Patzcuaro gather to show and sell their pottery.  It’s a great time and place to check out the diversity and color of Michoacan’s pottery artisans.

Most guests at Hotel Mansion Iturbe start off their Fridays with a visit to the Plaza de San Francisco Pottery Fair.  The Fair’s proximity to the Hotel makes it even easier – it’s just a couple blocks away!  Guests can do some shopping at the Fair, return to the Hotel in short order, and continue on with their exploration of our picturesque Pueblo Mágico.

At the Pottery Fair, you will find pottery made in ways that go back a LONG way.  Items include utensils, pots, flower vases, dishes, coffee mugs – oodles of things for the kitchen.  The pottery techniques are a legacy of Don Vasco de Quiroga’s efforts five centuries ago.
