functioning as the "Gertrudis Bocanegra" Public Library. Inside lies
a crown jewel of 20th-century Mexican muralism and protected national heritage:
the recently restored History of Michoacán by Juan O'Gorman. The mural
poignantly immortalizes Doña Gertrudis Bocanegra, executed on October 11, 1817,
after serving as a courageous courier and spy for the insurgency, keeping
absolute silence to safeguard her compatriots.
