Ihuatzio is the place to go for chuspata – or tule – figures and furniture.  This process involves creating a framework of thick iron wire/rebar and wrapping reeds around the frame to create a sturdy but graceful animal figure, furniture, or lamp.

If you don’t have the time to tour the entire Lake Pátzcuaro perimeter, not to worry!  The artisans also come to Pátzcuaro with their wares!  Check out La Casa de los Once Patios, a couple blocks south of Hotel Mansión Iturbe, the open-air market off the Plaza Chica, and the Palacio de Huitzimengari, just down the street from our hotel.

And if you happen to be in on Friday, you gotta go to the Pottery Fair in the Plaza San Francisco.
