SECOND WORLD CULTURAL TOURISM EXPO IN MORELIA

On September 29, 2011, marked the first day of the Second World Cultural Tourism Expo in Morelia, Michoacán.  For four exciting days, tourist attractions of Michoacán and other international destinations were showcased.

During the kickoff cocktail party, national and international concessionaires, tour companies, and Michoacán hotel owners were able to mingle and brainstorm about tourism challenges and goals.  Directors of the Council for the Promotion of Mexican Tourism were the primary facilitators for the event.

It was an expo to show to the world the historic, cultural, and natural riches of Michoacán.  If we had had time, we could have attended about 50 different cultural events held in various public venues in Morelia

An important event during this World Expo took place in Pátzcuaro “La Magía de mis Pueblos.”  An exposition of pictures of the different Magic Towns in México. Before, it was held in the “Alcázar” from the Chapultepec Castle in Mexico City. Now in Pátzcuaro at the Old Jesuit Cultural Center, until October 26th, 2011

This exciting event brought a smorgasbord of culture not only to Michoacán, but also to the national and international participants, showcasing our many tourist destinations.

We at Mansión Iturbe are especially proud of the success of “la Ruta de Don Vasco,” an idea that brought together nature and culture.  The program won the prize for Best Active Tourism Product in FITUR 2011 in Madrid.   Those present at the expo were able to see the premier of the new video, “La Ruta de Don Vasco,” and attend a very interesting conference hosted by the Ex Tourism Secretary of Michoacán, Dr. Genovevo Figueroa Zamudio

La Ruta de Don Vasco is an innovative product in the new category of “cultural tourism,” which is a new “line of Mexican tourist products.”  It’s a source of pride and satisfaction for those of us in the tourist industry.  Cultural tourism is really coming into its own.

Other Mexican “rutas” were presented during the expo conferences, including Maya World, Wines of Baja California, and Tequilas of Jalisco.  Representatives from far away, including New York and Peru, were also in attendance to promote their “cultural tours.”

Morelia  is an excellent place to make thisWorld Expo been the capital of Michoacán the Cultural destination of Mexico. Here in Michoacán we were very proud to host the Second World Cultural Tourism Expo.
